About CredMeter
CredMeter is the public lie detector. It tracks statements made by public and industry figures and checks them against official records, filings, transcripts, and other primary evidence.
What CredMeter does
CredMeter indexes statements that public and industry figures make to the public, quotes each one verbatim, and compares it against documentary evidence. When a statement conflicts with the record, it is published as a lie — outright or misleading — with the evidence cited alongside it. CredMeter also tracks how often each tracked person is caught, on a rolling and lifetime basis.
What CredMeter is not
CredMeter is not a general fact-checking portal, an opinion tracker, or a 0–100 credibility score. It does not rate tone, sincerity, or character. A statement is published only when it can be checked against a specific, citable source — see the methodology for the full standard.
How the record is built
Every published entry passes four tests before it goes live: it is attributed to a named individual, backed by a verbatim source for the statement itself, contradicted by at least one primary or official document, and — for high-impact claims — supported by independent evidence from more than one domain. No claim is published automatically; a human editor reviews it first.
Coverage and limitations
Coverage depends on the sources in CredMeter's register and is uneven across topics, time periods, and individuals. Absence from the ledger is not an endorsement — it means a checkable, contradicted statement has not yet been indexed, not that a person has never lied.
