Chicago Police Department Uniform Crime Reporting figures through September 2026 show overall Part I crime down 2 percent year to date and violent crime down 8 percent. Homicides were 321 through September, down 3 percent from 2025, a year that closed with the city's fewest killings in 60 years. Robberies were down 21 percent year to date and vehicular hijackings down 26 percent.
