What the evidence shows
Business Standard reported on October 6 that oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz had recovered to only 70–75 percent of pre-war capacity, and that gasoline, diesel and other distillate flows were at 58 percent of pre-war levels. Snopes rated mostly false the claim that California refinery closures forced by Gov. Newsom, rather than the Iran war and closed Middle East shipping routes, caused the 2026 national price spike.
