CBP reported historic lows in FY2026, including the first fiscal year with zero Border Patrol releases and about 98,708 southwest border apprehensions (a 95% drop), but not zero crossings or encounters. Daily apprehensions continued at reduced levels.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (signed July 4, 2025) created temporary deductions (through 2028) for qualified tips and overtime pay, plus an extra $6,000 senior deduction, but did not fully eliminate taxes on tips, overtime, or Social Security benefits. Higher earners and non-qualifiers still pay.
